学习 a foreign language is a journey. I like to remind myself of my own experience as an ESL speaker when I teach my students 法国. Thus, I emphasize genuine interactions and communication in 法国, and promote a positive learning environment for them to gain confidence and skills in the target language. I earned my Ph.D. in 法国 from UC Davis (Designated emphasis in Second Language Acquisition) and my MA in 法国 as a Second Language from Grenoble 3 (in France). A resident of Hayward since 2008, my family of 4 is thankful for the opportunity to apply urban "farming" to our daily life with our garden, chickens, goats, and bees!

My parents are Koreans but I never lived in Korea. I was born in Guam and moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina when I was 3 years old and lived there until I was 16. At the age of 16, we left Argentina and moved to Glendale, California where I attended Hoover High School. After high school, I went to UC Berkeley where I majored in 西班牙语 Literature. After receiving my BA in 西班牙语, I went to UCLA where I earned a MA and a PhD in Latin American Colonial Literature. 我有 taught 西班牙语 at UCLA, Scripps College, Western University of Health Sciences, and San José State University. 我有 been a full-time 西班牙语 instructor at Chabot College since Fall of 2006. 我说 西班牙语, Korean, and English fluently. 我有 studied 意大利, Portuguese, 法国, and Latin. I live with my husband (Moon), daughter (Emily), son (Alexander), and cat (Ellie) in San José, California. As a former language student of several foreign languages including Portuguese, 意大利, 法国, Latin, and Korean, I believe I can relate to my students’ struggles when it comes to learning a new language and all the frustration that sometimes comes with it. In my classroom, I strive to create a safe community where students are encouraged to learn about the Hispanic culture as well as the language. What is truly important to my teaching is to foster an inviting learning environment for my students by being an opened, flexible, creative and dynamic instructor.
